Employment Incentives Web Portal
Employment
Incentives: Our Foundation’s most ambitious project to
date, Employment Incentives supports a website (www.employmentincentives.com)
that serves as a unique portal for businesses that hire or retain employees
with disabilities. During 2007, the site has had over 740,000 visitors.
We currently receive more than 80,000 unique visitors per month. They
come because we have organized Federal and State hiring incentives and
programs in a business friendly, accessible manner. In addition to the
Federal materials, the site currently has tax credit, capital equipment,
training, and general funding information available for the following
thirteen states:
- California
- Colorado
- Delaware
- Florida
- Massachusetts
- Nebraska
- New Jersey
- Ohio
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Tennessee
- Texas
American businesses who have used our Employment Incentives web portal during the year 2007, reported that they secured over $470,000 in various Federal and State tax credits, deductions, and training offsets during the past year. This use of the intended Financial Incentives for hiring is one way that we are ‘driving up’ the numbers of Americans with disabilities who get hired. GAO Report, GAO-03-39 released in December 2002 On Business Tax Incentives found that a very small proportion of corporate and individual taxpayers with a business affiliation use the available tax credits that are available to encourage the hiring, retention and accommodation of workers with disabilities. Foundation Chair, Janet Fiore participated in the GAO's study on this issue, and was inspired to action in the form of this popular web portal.
