THE ONE MORE
WAY COLLABORATIVE
One More Way is a national forum created in response
to all of you who have told us that “it’s hard to get connected.” Any
human resource manager will tell you that finding the right person is something
akin to, at times, winning the hiring lottery. All of us have, even
if silently, uttered a plea that ‘there must be another way’ to
access the myriad of systems in place to help us achieve our staffing goals.
There are times when the sheer size and fundamental nature of an endeavor requires people to come together with their gifts and talents to resolve that something better is not just possible, but rather it is essential.
“One More Way” is an ‘open source’ effort that seeks to make information regarding job seekers with disabilities and the programs that support them available for use by hiring managers in virtually any field, across the country. This effort will bring key players together to clear up confusion and create new connections where sometimes, none have been established. The One More Way collaborative serves as a forum for all parties involved in the area of disability and employment “to come together to do together what we cannot do alone”.
The Foundation of every workplace is its people. We at Sierra Group’s
Workplace Foundation recognize that leadership is required to build MORE connections
between job seekers with disabilities; and organizations looking to hire
from this pool of unsurpassed talent. A 2002 census shows that only
56.6% of all working-aged Americans with disabilities were employed, compared
to 77.2% of Americans without disabilities.
One More Way is shaping the future both here and around
the nation. One More Way’s vision is to create a remarkable
and visible network that can serve the most important growth industries
of the day. Together, we will find just ‘one more way’ to
drive up employment for workers with disabilities, starting with veterans.
At today’s DEBUT, our special guests will:
LEARN the benefits of preference programs for employing
people with disabilities.
SHARE your organization’s information regarding
hiring veterans with disabilities.
HELP drive up employment for Americans with disabilities,
starting with veterans.
One More Way is the newest program within the Sierra's Group's Workplace Foundation. We are launching One More Way in response to all of you who tell us that "it's hard to get connected."
Businesses tell us that it is hard to get connected to resources about disability and the right candidates for their company. Veterans with disabilities tell us that it is hard to find a new career and access the services that will best bring out their ability during their job search, accommodation and training.
The Sierra Group's Foundation together with our growing board is committed to maximizing all of our national connections with businesses, agencies, government and veterans with disabilities in order to stimulate employment.
Our Board consists of experienced and knowledgeable members ready to use their own expertise and relationships toward this goal. At our kick off breakfast in Washington DC on April 18th the One More Way program founders will share with our distinguished guests our plans to collect and distribute information to significantly increase the numbers of veterans with disabilities who find jobs.
We will use the forum of a national launch to recap the status of an existing legislative initiative designed to ‘jump start’ the hiring process of veterans with disabilities. We will also share our detailed plans to bring education and candidates directly to hiring managers throughout the country.
By sharing what we know openly with one another, we know we can be the one more way to link together everyone who is involved with employees with disabilities. We want you to join us with the knowledge and experience you can bring to this project so that we can all have just One More Way to work together to lower the rate of unemployment for people with disabilities, starting with our veterans!
The One More Way initiative will serve as a forum for all parties involved in the area of disability and employment to "come together to do together what we cannot do alone."
